| Thank you Robert B. Odekirk for posing as Alex Wilson! |
I found Ian's Dad today. And the most exciting news about it is that when I asked him if he wouldn't mind
being a character in my book he asked what is the character like? I told him that Ian's dad is kind of an outdoorsy person but he has been experimenting with making a 3D engine and accidentally opens a portal to another world
..He says, "far out"
... and I say,"... and he goes in."
He nods.
I say, "Would you go in?"
He says, "You bet."
Then he adds the thing about if it didn't look like it was too dangerous...(note the key word 'too') but the Realm doesn't look dangerous at first...So now,
no more apologies.
I say,"You're the man, then!"
Robert is a boy scout leader and a reenactor who modeled today for the plein air painters at the
So now I have a question for you.
WOULD YOU GO INTO THE REALM IF IT WAS YOUR COMPUTER?
and if you are a wife...ask your husband and let me know what he says.
Please leave your response as a comment. Thanks!
After a few moments of "what if's", I would take the bait. Too much curiosity in my bones.
ReplyDeleteI'd go in - right away! (and I'm a wife and mother) My husband would never, ever, ever go in. Neither would our best friend, who is an athletic, out-doorsy kind of guy. But my 4 brothers (25-35 years) would all go. My sisters (in the same age bracket) would rather die than do it. My son wouldn't dare to go in, but my daughter would.
ReplyDeleteI guess, it's a pure personality thing. There are people, who can't wait to discover something new, and those, who feel most comfortable when things stay just the way they are.
I forgot to add: I'd jump in, but wouldn't take my child with me until I was sure it was safe.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the comments so far. I made some changes in the second chapter. Alex enters the Realm seeking adventure and discovery...and just before he leaves,Ian, not wanting to lose his dad should he not come back, and knowing he can't convince him to stay, joins him. Alex asks him if he's sure he wants to go and Ian nods. I think that because there's really no one for Ian to stay with at home should Dad never return would influence Alex's decision to let him come. But the choice is ultimately Ian's.
ReplyDeleteOkay, so I asked my husband and he said he would definitely go into a realm if it was in his computer, as long as there was a way back!
ReplyDelete...and I love the character you chose for Ian's dad! love the goggles :)
